Focus Area: Child Welfare System Reform
Sherry Lachman is founder and executive director of Foster America. She previously served as domestic policy advisor to Vice President Joe Biden, senior policy advisor at the Department of Education, and senior education counsel to Senator Al Franken. She was also an attorney at the Juvenile Law Center. Sherry is a fellow in the Halcyon Incubator and the Taubman Center at the Harvard Kennedy School and a Draper Richards Kaplan Entrepreneur. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania, a JD from Columbia, and a master’s in public policy from Harvard.
Foster America is creating a pipeline of leaders and innovators to transform the child welfare system. Through their fellowship program, Foster America connects professionals with crucial skills in data, technology, design, strategy, and finance to reform projects within the system. Their work helps keep families safely together and improve the lives of children in the foster system.
